The 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline is just a few weeks away.
The deadline will come and pass on July 31st and New York unsurprisingly is one of the top contenders in the American League. New York has addressed the loss of Juan Soto this past offseason well and is tied for first place in the American League East once again.
New York has a 48-38 record right now and is tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for first place. It would be nice to add more firepower to the organization ahead of the trade deadline if New York wants to try to go on a run this year. If the Yankees want to add some sort of big piece -- like a starting pitcher -- they will have to give up something in exchange.
The Athletic's Jim Bowden shared a column highlighting the prospects most likely to be included in deadline deals and mentioned Yankees No. 2 prospect Spencer Jones.

"No. 5. Spencer Jones, OF, Yankees," Bowden said. "I’m not sure I believe that the Yankees will trade Jones, who has slashed .283/.396/.628 this season with 19 home runs, 35 RBIs and 11 stolen bases between Double A and Triple A. However, if the 24-year-old is dealt, expect it to be a huge deal for a top starter or an impact second or third baseman. That said, I don’t think he’ll be traded."
Jones has all of the potential in the world and isn't far away from the big leagues. But, this roster is built to win right now. Could the Yankees flip the young slugger for a piece that could help with that timeline or wait it out and find a deal elsewhere?
