The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners on Monday night, although the devastating injury to Oswaldo Cabrera was a tough one to deal with.
Cabrera's presence in the locker room is unquestioned, so it was a tough scene seeing him leave in an ambulance.
On Tuesday, the Yankees placed Cabrera on the 10-day IL with a left ankle fracture, per the official release from the team.
Now, another update has come on the Cabrera front, per Greg Joyce of The New York Post.
Oswaldo Cabrera saw a doctor back in NY this morning and is going for an MRI, but is scheduled to see a few more to get multiple opinions on his ankle before any potential surgery.
So, the Yankees and Cabrera are still in wait-and-see mode regarding the concrete timeline of his recovery, although the scary injury was not an easy one to digest.
New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, who worked with the Yankees before, also admitted he was sick to his stomach seeing it happen to Cabrera.
"It made me sick to my stomach, to be honest," Mendoza said via Erik Boland of Newsday. "You hate to see that happen to anyone but knowing the kid, how much joy he brings every day, how much he cares, the personality, it just breaks your heart.”
On Tuesday, it was Oswald Peraza who started at third base for the Yankees, and the return of DJ LeMahieu could be another option for manager Aaron Boone with Cabrera sidelined for the foreseeable future.
