Max Fried is almost certainly the best pitcher in baseball so far this season.

It's been an absolute incredible start for the $215 million southpaw in his first season with the New York Yankees.

His latest gem came Saturday in Colorado, when he went 7.1 innings, allowed a single run and struck out seven in a resounding Yankees win over the lowly Rockies.

The start has Fried's season stats at:

  • 7-0
  • 1.29 ERA
  • 0.93 WHIP
  • 67 K in 70 IP

It's the second time in MLB since 1969 that a pitcher has had at least seven wins, no losses and an ERA under 1.50 entering Memorial Day.

The first? Pedro Martinez with the Expos in 1997, when he was 8-0 with a 1.17 ERA. The comparison came courtesy of OptaStats.

Fried has been that good. His career in Atlanta was stellar, but he's brought his game to a whole new level in the Bronx.

At this point, he's pitching like a Hall of Famer.

If Fried keeps dealing like Martinez, the Yankees will get all their millions worth and then some.
