The top prospect for the New York Yankees is heating up.

After an impressive showing during spring training, shortstop George Lombard Jr. began the minor league season in Hudson Valley, the team's High-A affiliate.

However, the 19-year-old shortstop slashed .329/.496/.488 with one home run and 11 stolen bases in 24 games, earning a promotion to Double-A Somerset, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.

New York has been taking it slow with its top prospect, who earned that spot after Jasson Dominguez was no longer eligible to be considered a prospect.

Lombard, will turn 20 years old in June and will be the third-youngest player in Double-A. Only Texas shortstop Sebastian Walcott and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Nelson Rada are younger.

The Yankees may have a good problem on their hands when it comes to the shortstop position. Anthony Volpe is slashing .233/.326/.442 with five home runs and has been stellar defensively as well.

It will still be a while before a serious conversation takes place about Lombard making another jump, but it's clear he's making the necessary improvements.
