If the New York Yankees are indeed interested in improving their rotation, there should be a few names at the top of their list.
The rotation has the potential to be one of the best in baseball when healthy, as Cam Schlittler showed ace potential last year, Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon are as good as it gets when healthy, and Max Fried was excellent in his first season in New York.
However, that doesn’t mean the Yankees shouldn’t make additional moves, especially with multiple injuries already in play.
That’s why Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com proposed an idea that would send Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers to New York.
“Why it makes sense: Peralta’s numbers since he became a full-time starter in 2021 (3.30 ERA, 10.9 K/9) compare favorably to those of Dylan Cease, who just signed a seven-year, $210 million deal with the Blue Jays in free agency. Peralta’s 2026 salary with the Brewers?
“Just $8 million. The Yankees also have been linked to MacKenzie Gore, but Peralta is the safer bet at this point and could cost less to acquire as a pitcher with one year of team control remaining, compared to two for the Nats lefty,” he wrote.
The idea of landing Peralta makes a lot of sense.
There aren’t many pitchers in Major League Baseball better than the right-hander from Milwaukee, and the Brewers’ situation is a key factor.
While it’s fair to point out that Milwaukee hasn’t always done what’s necessary in recent years to maximize its World Series chances, often opting to save money, it’s also one of the better teams in baseball.
It could believe it has a chance to win it all if it keeps talent throughout the roster.
