Around Major League Baseball, there seem to be a few teams that are in a good position to go out and make a trade due to some of the pitching they have in their farm system.
For the New York Yankees, they’re certainly one of them, as there's a strong argument to be made that the Yankees have arguably the best pitching in baseball at the higher ranks of the minors.
Among the options they could look to move on from, Elmer Rodriguez is at the top of that list.
Rodriguez has proven throughout his time in the Yankees organization, despite it only being a couple of months, that he can be a very above-average arm. He posted a 2.58 ERA in High-A to Triple-A in 2025, and that's part of the reason why Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller views him as a top trade candidate for the Yankees this offseason.
“Gerrit Cole is unlikely to be ready by Opening Day, but he'll likely be back before Memorial Day, potentially bumping Will Warren from a rotation where they already have Max Fried, Carlos Rodón, Luis Gil and Cam Schlittler.
“The specifics on that front remain to be sorted out, but the moral of the story is the Yankees have six starters signed through at least 2028 and a farm system that is almost too top-heavy with pitchers. Moving one of those prospects this winter is a near-certainty,” he wrote.
Yankees need pitching
It’d make sense if the Yankees go out and land a high-caliber starter this winter.
In order for them to do that, they'll have to give up a few decent prospects. The former Red Sox fourth-rounder of the 2021 MLB draft could be one of them who gets dealt.
