Yankees' Jazz Chisholm makes third base announcement after injury image

Jazz Chisholm is nearly back in the big leagues.

And when he returns to the New York Yankees, it may be at a different position.

Chisholm opened the year playing second base. But since Chisholm has been out with his oblique injury, D.J. LeMahieu has held down that spot admirably.

The Yankees still have a black hole at the hot corner, and Chisholm might fill it.

"(Manager Aaron Boone) gave me the choice, but he told me he really wanted me at third base," Chisholm told media Thursday after his rehab appearance with the Somerset Patriots. "I'm a team guy. I'm here to win a ring."

Chisholm has played mostly up the middle in his MLB carer.

He has 196 games at second base, 192 games in centerfield and 46 games at shortstop.

Chisholm played all 45 of his MLB games at third base last season after being acquired by the Yankees from the Marlins. He checked in at negative-2 Defensive Runs Saved.

The Yankees will likely at least give third base a shot. Other guys can always get hurt and result in more movement.

But the peak New York batting lineup probably has both Chisholm and LeMahieu in it, and Jazz at the hot corner is how that gets done.
