The New York Yankees might be linked to Bo Bichette, but according to others, the interest isn’t nearly as real as it’s being framed.

Speaking on the situation, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic made it clear that Bichette isn’t a priority for New York, mainly due to Cody Bellinger still being front and center. Despite the difference in positions, Bichette seems to be an afterthought.

“If Bellinger is their number one priority, I do not think that they would be getting both Bellinger and Bichette,” Kirschner said. “It would be likely that Bichette would be a backup option if Bellinger goes elsewhere — which I am not expecting.”

“I do think that eventually the Yankees and Bellinger will agree to a new deal. But I’ve heard that the Yankees’ interest in Bichette is really not even that solidified. Yes, they’ve checked in — the one thing I will say about checking in on free agents is, it is the job of the general manager to check in on everybody that’s out there.”

Checking in doesn’t mean anything serious is happening, as it means the Yankees are simply doing their homework.

Right now, everything points back to Bellinger as the focus, which I don’t think is wrong. However, I think it’s safe to say that the old Yankees would have landed both players.
