The New York Yankees enter the offseason with a few holes they need to fill. One of these holes will be to help bolster the rotation to start the 2026 season.
Both Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole will not be ready for Opening Day, as Cole is coming off Tommy John surgery and Rodon is coming off a surgery to remove loose bodies and shave down a bone spur in his elbow.
They are also at risk of losing some key contributors from the 2025 season, like Trent Grisham, Cody Bellinger, and Luke Weaver. While many believed the Bronx Bombers would do all they could to retain Bellinger, it has now been confirmed.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman confirms the priority is to retain Cody Bellinger
Cody Bellingr is coming off a fantastic season in the Bronx. 152 regular-season games, the slugger hit.272/.334/.480 with 25 doubles, 29 home runs, and 98 runs batted in.
He was a player who took a lot of the pressure off Aaron Judge to perform at his best day in and day out. The Yankees do not want to lose him, and GM Brian Cashman recently confirmed they will do everything in their power to keep him, via USA Today's Bob Nightengale.
"We're very interested in bringing him back," said Cashman. "He's going to have a lot of choices because he can do a lot of different things... We would be better served if we could retain him. If not, we'll have to look at alternative ways to fill it."
Losing Bellinger would mean that the Yankees would lose an outfielder, someone who could fill in at first base, and a large chunk of their offense. Expect Cashman and the rest of the front office to show the former NL MVP exactly what he means to them.
