It’s been a quiet offseason for the New York Yankees. Once one of the more aggressively spending teams year after year, the Yankees are taking a different approach this winter.
So far, the only moves they’ve made are to bring back Trent Grisham, and Ryan Yarborough. There are plenty of stars on the market such as Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker, but so far the Yankees haven’t budged.
Notoriously one of the most prominent spenders every winter, the Yankees are taking a backseat so far.
Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News recently asked Yankees GM Brian Cashman about fans wanting the team to spend recklessly in the offseason.
“Fans don't really care about those details. They want what they want. Ultimately, what we both want is to have a team that's going to rack up the win totals to push themselves into the postseason and win it all. But it's just the nature of the beast where you get into the frenzy of the winter times. 'Anything at all cost, doesn't matter,' but in reality, it does matter,” Cashman said.
“Everything adds up. Everything counts,” he added.
Nonetheless, the Yankees will do what they can to try and load up for a deep playoff run in 2026, after a disappointing ending to their 2025 campaign.
