The New York Yankees are seemingly always linked to some of the top trade options every season. Regardless of whether they actually need that player or not, if there's a player in trade rumors, the Yankees are typically linked.
That's been the case for Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte, who would be an incredible get for the Yankees, even if it meant shifting around Marte or Jazz Chisholm in the infield.
However, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees got some bad news on a potential Marte trade. While a trade is technically still possible, this update is damning for the Yankees' chances of trading for Marte.
Yankees' Ketel Marte trade rumors take huge blow to blockbuster odds
"Marte has a five-team no-trade list," Rosenthal writes, "the Athletics, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Giants and Cardinals, according to people briefed on his contract."
This update on Marte's no-trade list is damning for the Yankees' chances of trading for him. If a player has a team on a limited no-trade list, then they're very likely not to okay a trade to that team.
Every other team can trade for Marte without his input, but the Yankees and the four other teams listed would all have to get Marte's permission to execute a trade.
The 32-year-old second baseman is a three-time All-Star and is one of, if not the best, hitting second basemen in the Majors. In 2025, Marte hit.283 with 28 doubles, 28 home runs, and an.893 OPS.

It might've been tricky to manage with Chisholm, but if the Yankees could've traded for Marte, they would keep the very interested Boston Red Sox from getting him, and also make their infield one of the best-hitting groups in the Majors.
While the defense would take a hit due to moving Chisholm elsewhere, the Yankees' offense would be significantly better than it was last season.
But Marte paired the Yankees alongside the Athletics and Pirates on his no-trade list, as the Diamondbacks superstar won't be coming to the Yankees even if they make the strongest offer to Arizona.
