One way or another, the New York Yankees seem to be in the conversation for every major free agent this offseason.

They've been talked about being active in the trade market, too. The Yankees reportedly reached out to the Texas Rangers, asking about the availability of shortstop Corey Seager.

However, the Rangers president of baseball operations, Chris Young, made it clear at MLB's winter meetings that Seager is not going anywhere.

“The reality is, every team is looking for great players, and there have been a number of teams that have checked in on a number of our great players,” Young said at the winter meetings. “The reality is, we are not motivated to move Corey Seager.

The Yankees may also have had interest in Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte, but New York is one of the five clubs on Marte's no-trade list.

Seager would have brought a jolt to the Yankees' lineup

Anthony Volpe's labrum surgery and uncertain future with the Yankees remain a topic of discussion.

Yankees fans grew increasingly frustrated with the former first-round pick's poor play throughout last season. Unless they make a move, Jose Caballero will be New York's starting shortstop on Opening Day.

Seager would have been a great addition to a lineup that's currently led by Aaron Judge and may or may not have Cody Bellinger in it next season.

Even with injuries, Seager hit.271/.373/.487 with 21 home runs, 50 RBIs, and a 151 OPS+ in 102 games in 2025 with the Rangers.
