After losing Devin Williams, the New York Yankees have some tough decisions to make with the remainder of their bullpen.

As things currently stand, the Yankees should still be in a solid spot with David Bednar and Camilo Doval handling the back end, but losing multiple relievers in the same offseason is never ideal.

Unfortunately for New York, it could also result in them missing out on Luke Weaver, a player some fans really like, and others are more skeptical of.

Weaver is a difficult player to evaluate.

At times, he’s shown he can be very effective, but at others, he’s been below average. For fans hoping he returns, that may not be in the cards.

According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Weaver was frustrated late in the season with some of the mechanical tweaks the Yankees were pushing.

“Never say never, but Weaver was irked late in the season about some of the mechanical adjustments they were pushing on him related to pitch-tipping -- it seemed like he was trying to think about too many different checkpoints instead of just focusing on executing the next pitch.

“He also expressed interest in trying to find a place where he could try being a starter again, a la Clay Holmes. If he's really focused on that, I don't think it'll be in the Bronx,” he wrote.

As Hoch noted above, Weaver has made it known he’d be willing to start, and around Major League Baseball, starters typically command much larger contracts than relievers.

If Weaver can secure a multi-year deal as a starter, it feels likely he’ll be doing so with another team.
