Has Sandy Alcantara shown enough in June for the New York Yankees to go out and get him?
Alcantara is the 2022 National League Cy Young Award winner, but a lot has transpired since. He missed all of 2024 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and his first two months in 2025 were so dreadful that it looked like the Miami Marlins might be better off not trading him.
The 29-year-old Alcantara has rebounded in his last four starts, though, posting a 2.74 ERA in 23 innings. He is under contract for $17 million in 2026 and $21 million (club option) in 2027, so the time could still be now for Miami to receive a haul.
Would the Yankees, who have lacked depth in their rotation all season, consider giving the Marlins that haul?
Zach Pressnell of FanSided thinks so. Pressnell named the Yankees as a top prospective suitor for Alcantara in a piece published on Monday.
"New York needs to go out and get a starter before the trade deadline and it seems like it's only a matter of time before the front office gains a sense of urgency and pulls off a deal," Pressnell wrote.

"The first name at the top of their wish list should be the aforementioned Alcántara. Adding him would set the Yankees up for years down the road as the righty has multiple years of affordable team control left on his deal."
On the season, Alcantara owns a 6.69 ERA and -1.0 bWAR. But the Yankees know that Sandy Alcantara is better than that at his best. They watched, along with everyone else, as he put up a 2.28 ERA in 228 innings in 2022.
Does that mean they'd be willing to give up top outfield prospect Spencer Jones and more to bring him to the Bronx? And would the Marlins even accept a package if Jones is the headliner?
Only time will tell.
