The New York Yankees still need more talent, and however the front office chooses to address that will likely shape the offseason.

Whether that means targeting the best players available or focusing on moves that fit the roster, there are plenty of directions they could go.

Often, fit ends up mattering more than raw talent, though it wouldn’t be the worst idea for the Yankees to land a star and hope everything falls into place.

That would be the case with someone like Bo Bichette.

Bichette is one of the better players in baseball, especially among infielders, and would be a significant upgrade at shortstop. However, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, while the Yankees do have interest, there are concerns about Bichette being a long-term option at shortstop.

“Yes, with a caveat -- you're talking about adding another major salary commitment to the pile. It's not a non-starter, but in talking to people around the Jays last year covering the ALCS, Bichette's not a long-term answer at shortstop.

“So you'd need to plan on him being your second baseman or third baseman, which means we're talking about a trade involving Jazz Chisholm Jr. Or Ryan McMahon if you're intending to keep payroll around the $310 million window. Long story short, I don't expect to see it,” he wrote.

Moving on from someone like Ryan McMahon wouldn’t be the worst idea if it increased the Yankees’ chances of winning a championship.

It also wouldn’t be unreasonable to give Bichette a shot at shortstop, as Anthony Volpe hasn’t done enough to fully lock down the position. Regardless, Bichette should still be viewed as a player the Yankees have interest in.
