Yankees' Anthony Volpe stats on fire since his cortisone shot image

Anthony Volpe has had quite the up and down season for the New York Yankees.

Right now, it's all up, and it's been a hot streak since Volpe got a cortisone shot.

Is it related? Who knows.

But it's something that Yankees fans have taken notice of.

Volpe got a cortisone shot on Sept. 10 for a small tear in the labrum in his left shoulder, which he's had for more than four months.

He returned to the starting lineup on Sept. 16.

In the six games since then entering Wednesday, Volpe was hitting 8-for-20 (.400) with two doubles, two RBI and two steals.

And he delivered a clutch double right away on Wednesday night.

Volpe is one of those players that some Yankees fans love and some Yankees fans love to hate.

But he's their best hope as a shortstop of the future, and frankly, as a shortstop of the present.

If Volpe can stay hot, the Yankees have a shot to chase down the division, or even to make noise as an AL Wild Card team.

There are even fans calling for him to get another cortisone shot. Baseball is a game of superstition, and when something works, it all feels interconnected.
