The New York Yankees added Anthony Rizzo to their roster a few years ago, hoping for him to do similar things to what he did for much of his career with the Chicago Cubs.
For parts of his time with the Yankees, Rizzo looked great.
After a concussion during the 2023 campaign, everything went downhill.
Is Anthony Rizzo's MLB career over?
It was an unfortunate moment for both sides, but Rizzo now finds himself in the worst possible situation for a player who wants to continue playing at the highest level. Reports indicated during the offseason that he had offers out there, but wasn't willing to take a minimum deal.
Out of Major League Baseball for an entire season now, some believe that Rizzo won't play another game in the league. That includes Jake Elman of FanSided, who named him one of four ex-Yankee stars who won't play another game in the show.

“Is Anthony Rizzo a Hall of Famer? We expect voters to make the case for him in a few years, especially considering how the three-time All-Star fared analytically. Rizzo totaled a 40.4 bWAR in 14 seasons, and he remained one of the league’s more efficient hitters even as teams accepted their players striking out more. As of publication, the leaguewide strikeout rate is an even 22.0%, far worse than Rizzo’s lifetime 16.5 strikeout percentage...
“A 2023 concussion ended Rizzo’s prime, and he managed only eight home runs in 375 plate appearances last year. Rizzo will nonetheless leave baseball as an all-around good guy who earned the 2017 Roberto Clemente Award for the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation’s work in fighting childhood cancer,” he wrote.
Considering Rizzo hasn't found a team this year and is only getting older, it's unlikely that he'll have many opportunities to continue his career in the future.
It wouldn't be too surprising to see him get a shot, but the chances of that seem low as of now.
