Yankees may have big advantage in ALDS game four with recent Blue Jays announcement image

The New York Yankees are facing elimination once again as they take on the Toronto Blue Jays in game four of the ALDS.

New York was able to keep their hopes alive with a 9-6 victory over the Blue Jays on Tuesday, and the Yankees will now run out standout starter Cam Schlittler to start another win-or-go-home game for New York.

However, for the Blue Jays, their rotation outlook looks a bit different.

Blue Jays announce Louis Varland as opener against Yankees

The Blue Jays announced that Louis Varland will get the start for game four on Wednesday, and it will likely be a parade of relivers after him.

This poses a huge benefit for the Yankees, as they forced Toronto to use six relievers in last night's contest. Toronto opting for a bullpen game gives the Yankees a great chance to extend the series to five games, where Max Fried will likely get another crack at shutting down the Jays.

Varland was acquired by the Blue Jays in a late-July trade with the Twins and is a hard-throwing right-hander. However, Aaron Judge had no problem timing him up, and hit a huge game-tying three-run home run off Varland in game three to give the Yankees full momentum in the game.

In other Yankees' news, Aaron Boone is opting to keep Ben Rice in the lineup with the right-handed opener, but Paul Goldschmidt may come in later in the game as a formidable pinch-hit option.
