It was worth a shot.
On Wednesday, the New York Yankees focused account Talkin' Yanks announced on X (formerly Twitter) that outfielder and three-time American League MVP Aaron Judge received 11 write-in votes for New York City mayor.
Judge fell well short of winning the election, of course, but having 11 people write his name on the ballot is a reminder of how much love and appreciation Yankees fans have for their right fielder.
Back in 2017, his rookie season, Judge received 10 write-in votes for New York City mayor, with former New York Knicks center Kristaps Porzingis receiving 11 votes of his own.
In 2017, Judge had just won the AL Rookie of the Year, hitting a then-rookie record 52 home runs. Fans were eager to show their respect for the 6-7 rising star at the polling stations.
Judge is the "King" of New York
Despite falling short in the mayoral election, Judge is widely known as the "king" of New York, thanks to his popular walk-up song, "Hello" by rapper Pop Smoke.
"I'm the king of New York, Melo," Pop Smoke says in the song, a tribute to former Knicks star Carmelo Anthony. But fans at Yankee Stadium sing that line extra loud for Judge to hear when he steps up to the plate, showcasing that they genuinely believe he is now the "king of New York".
Judge and the Yankees watched the Toronto Blue Jays celebrate a trip to the ALCS on their home field in October, marking the organization's 16th consecutive season without a championship.
After winning his third MVP and continuing to break records, Judge's eyes are glued on a World Series ring before his career concludes. The number of votes he gets for New York City Mayor after winning the title could increase dramatically.
