Yankees' Aaron Boone shares unfortunate Carlos Rodon surgery news image

The New York Yankees, following the 2025 MLB season, have seen a few of their players' statuses change due to injury. While Aaron Judge isn't expected to have surgery and will likely be ready for Spring Training, other players like Anthony Volpe are dealing with a long-term surgery that will have him missing a bit of time to begin the year.

While not to the same extent as Volpe's injury, Aaron Boone, as Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports, shared that Yankees' All-Star pitcher Carlos Rodon is also heading for surgery.

Boone shared the unfortunate news that with Rodon's surgery, the left-handed pitcher is expected to miss some time at the start of the 2026 MLB season.

Aaron Boone shares that Carlos Rodon's surgery will cause the All-Star to miss part of the 2026 season

"Carlos Rodon had a procedure yesterday to shave down a bone spur in his left elbow, Aaron Boone said. Rodon is expected to be delayed a few weeks to begin the 2026 season." Hoch reported.

Rodon is expected to miss some time to begin the year, and while there's no clear timeline, missing a few weeks at the start of 2026 could lead the Yankees to be without Rodon until late April, or even into May.

The 32-year-old left-hander has been a mixed bag for the Yankees since they signed him to a huge $162 million contract before the 2023 season. He started rough, but in 2025, Rodon was back to his All-Star self.

In 33 starts, Rodon had a 3.09 ERA with 18 wins and nine losses. Across 195.1 innings pitched, Rodon had 203 strikeouts and walked 73 batters while allowing 22 home runs. For the first time since his 2022 season with the San Francisco Giants, Rodon was elite and back in the All-Star Game.

His 132 ERA+ on the year was the third-best mark of his MLB career, and while he had a rough 9.72 ERA in the playoffs, the production the Yankees got out of Rodon was much more in line with the contract they gave him a few years ago.

But now, the offseason procedure he had on his left elbow has him expected to miss the beginning of the season. This is a tough piece of news for the Yankees, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Gerrit Cole and whether he will be ready for the start of the year or not.

With Cole out and now Rodon slated to miss the beginning of the year, the Yankees need to consider adding another starting pitcher to get them through the opening weeks of the regular season.
