After another disappointing playoff exit for the New York Yankees, they’ve had plenty of time to reflect on how this season went down.
Sure, the Yankees won 94 games, and reached the ALDS just one year after Juan Soto departed for the cross-city rival, the New York Mets. On the surface, it seems like the Yankees had a successful season, but the standards are higher in the Bronx.
After their defeat in the ALDS at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays, manager Aaron Boone spoke with reporters about his thoughts following another early playoff exit.
“Could I have been more creative in some of the things in the middle of the season? Should I have been a little more bold with some ideas that help us net a game? I think that's what eats at me a little bit.”
Boone will be entering his ninth season as manager of the Yankees in 2026, but he is still searching for his first World Series title. Time is running out for the core of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gerrit Cole to win a championship with the Yankees, so Boone and the rest of the coaching staff will need to find a way to make things happen soon. Boone is under contract through 2027, so his being let go at this point feels unrealistic. Nonetheless, 2026 could serve as a pivotal year for Boone’s tenure.
