The New York Yankees experimented with former top prospect Jasson Dominguez in 2025. He was lot featured as much in the lineup down the stretch, but manager Aaron Boone provided a massive update on what Dominguez's 2026 season outlook will look like.
Aaron Boone told Yankees reporter Bryan Hoch that he expected Dominguez to be featured regularly in 2026 and be given the starting left field spot. Boone also noted that he may play winter ball over the next couple of months in preparation for the role change.
Jasson Dominguez's 2025 season by the numbers
Jasson Dominguez took 381 at-bats in 2025, which is a huge step up from the 56 he took in 2024. In those at-bats this season, Jasson posted a .257 average, 10 home runs, and an OPS+ of 101.
Those numbers should certainly warrant more playing time, but it's interesting as to why Boone didn't elect to use him as much down the stretch.
Dominguez did struggle in 2024, which is why there might have been hesitation in his playing time, but now that he has close to 500 at-bats to his name, it's time the Yankees opt to give him a full season of at-bats every single day.
With the news that he will be used more in 2026, that brings some light to the Yankees' free agency plan. Both Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger will be testing free agency, but left field seems to be solidified with Dominguez. However, if the Yankees lose both Grisham and Bellinger, they will have to make a splash for another outfielder.
