The New York Yankees will be buyers ahead of the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline.
The Yankees will likely look to address pitching first and foremost, but adding bench bats and depth in the outfield could also be needed.
MLB analyst Jake Elman of AthlonSports urges the Yankees to re-acquire veteran outfielder Mike Tauchman.
“Perhaps the one who makes the most sense is a player the Yankees know all too well,” Elman wrote… “Tauchman is another conversation, though, and the Yankees know that firsthand. He gave the 2019 Yankees a massive boost, posting 3.9 bWAR and 13 home runs across 296 plate appearances for the American League runner-ups…
“Tauchman makes sense on paper, but only if the Yankees get into a situation where they feel adding a true outfielder is necessary,” Elman added.

Tauchman would be a depth outfielder for the Yankees who could be a defensive replacement late in games or a pinch-hitter at times. He also likely wouldn’t cost much, despite still being under control through 2026.
But, whether or not the Yankees would want to acquire a fifth outfielder is to be seen, as New York may use assets to acquire a third baseman and pitching help.
The 34-year-old played for the Yankees from 2019 until 2021 and was an important depth player in the Bronx.
With the White Sox this season, Tauchman is hitting .348 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs in 46 at-bats. In his MLB career, he’s played in 487 games over eight seasons.
