Steve Cohen, Mets now showing interest in Yankees top trade target in what comes as least surprising news of MLB offseason image

The New York Yankees have been linked to Brendan Donovan for much of the offseason, but there’s reason to believe they may not be alone in that pursuit.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post added interesting thoughts to Donovan’s market this week, suggesting the New York Mets are expected to be involved.

If that’s the case, the Yankees could be staring at the possibility of losing out on one of their more logical trade targets to their crosstown rival.

“Brendan Donovan, a lot of people have brought him up, he's got incredible value. Could they keep him? Obviously, he doesn't make the kind of money that the guys they've traded like Gray make, or certainly, Contreras. But I do believe Brendan Donovan will probably be moved. Many teams are going to be in on him. The (New York) Mets are going to be a team that's interested in him,” he said.

Donovan makes sense for what the Yankees have been looking for. He has versatility defensively, a good offensive skill set, and team control without a massive deal.

If multiple teams are lining up, the price will only go up, and the Mets jumping into the mix adds another layer of competition. Steve Cohen loves to beat the Yankees for players.

Donovan wouldn’t make or break the Yankees' winter, but he’s definitely one of the better players available.
