If there's one thing that every Major League Baseball fan knows, it's that Scott Boras is going to do whatever it takes to raise the price of his top free agents.
In this winter's class, there isn't a better player than Kyle Tucker. However, Boras represents Cody Bellinger, the New York Yankees outfielder and free agent, and suggested that he's the best player available.
According to Robert Murray of FanSided, while Bellinger is a great player in his own right, he believes that Boras’ comments about Bellinger and lack of awareness on Tucker were more of a leverage play than anything else. For the Yankees, this could hurt them in more ways than one.
“Did he forget that Kyle Tucker exists? That’s no slight on Bellinger. He’s a fantastic player coming off a great season in the Bronx. But Tucker is the best player in free agency.
“In eight seasons, he’s hit.273/.358/.507 with an.865 OPS, 147 home runs and 490 RBI. Last season, despite dealing with a finger injury for a good chunk of the year, he hit.266/.377/.464 with 22 home runs and 73 RBI. He also has previously won a Gold Glove and can steal 25-30 bases in a season... What I believe: Pure leverage play. Tucker’s the best player on the market,” he wrote.
Will Yankees land Tucker?
It seems, at least in some sense, that the Yankees will have some level of interest in Tucker.
However, that could also come with the possibility of losing Bellinger along the way.
If the Yankees aren't instantly in on Bellinger, there's a chance he could leave in free agency to take a deal before Tucker gets paid and the Yankees lose both, while scrambling to find the answer.
