With these strange rumors that Jazz Chisholm is available from the New York Yankees, some are trying to read the writing on the wall and figure out why the Yankees would consider anything.
The only way trading Chisholm would make sense is if the Yankees have an obvious replacement lined up, and unfortunately for them, there aren’t many players who can replicate what he does as an infielder.
Chisholm is coming off a season in which he hit 31 home runs and was arguably the second-best second baseman in baseball behind Ketel Marte.
However, David Schoenfield of ESPN believes the noise might be real, suggesting the Yankees could sign Bo Bichette and replace Chisholm with the Toronto Blue Jays free agent.
“Prediction: Yankees. We're trying to read the tea leaves here, and those Jazz Chisholm Jr. Trade rumors keep popping up. Perhaps the Yankees are trying to clear space for a new infielder? Bichette could either provide another option at shortstop to Anthony Volpe, who struggled at the plate in 2025 and saw his defense regress as well, or play second, with Jose Caballero still around to back up both positions,” he wrote.
Bichette is a better overall player than Chisholm when looking at the numbers, even if his power totals are lower.
Frankly, though, the better idea might be to keep Chisholm around and replace Anthony Volpe with Bichette.
While Bichette is a below-average defender, the Yankees would be pairing two of the better hitting infielders in baseball in the same lineup, which could outweigh the defensive concerns.
