Perfect Yankees trade target likely won't be moved, per MLB insider image

With Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon not expected to start the season for the New York Yankees due to their injuries, as well as some other needs in the rotation, it’d make sense if New York goes out and attempts to improve its rotation.

Among the options on the trade market, someone like Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers would be ideal to target.

While Peralta is one of the better starters in Major League Baseball, we can never count the Brewers out regarding a trade.

The Brewers have shown over the past few years that they're looking to save money, and could do that with Peralta before he hits the free agency market.

However, according to Robert Murray of FanSided, Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold told him that he anticipates him being on the team.

“I anticipate him being part of our team moving forward.”

Despite that, Murray added that it wouldn't be surprising if they listened to offers and a team could poach him.

What will it take to land Peralta?

“This has always felt like the most likely scenario. At just $8 million in 2026, Peralta is incredibly affordable. He also is mightily important to the clubhouse and the franchise views this as a situation similar to Willy Adames: He’s a player who is just so vital that trading him would be very, very difficult.

“It’s not impossible. The Brewers will listen to inquiries. But it will take a lot for him to leave Milwaukee via trade this winter,” he wrote.

There’s certainly value in adding a player who posted a 2.70 ERA in 33 appearances this past season.

However, it's also fair to wonder if the Yankees have a good enough farm system to land a 29-year-old with some of the best stuff in the game.

If they do, it'd make a lot of sense to at least give Milwaukee a call.
