May 29 is a special date in New York Yankees history.
Specifically, May 29, 1995. It's on that day 30 years ago that a young man named Derek Jeter made his Major League Baseball debut for the winningest franchise in the sport.
The rest, as they say, is history.
The Yankees called Jeter up to replace an injured Tony Fernandez. Jeter picked up three hits in the first series of his big league career, played in Seattle.

Jeter went on to accumulate 3,465 hits in his legendary career.
The moments are too immense to list them all. But there's The Flip, and Mr. November, and ring after ring after ring, and a home run for his 3,000th hit, and a walk-off winner in his final game, and so many more.
Jeter was a well-known prospect by the time he was called up, but it was a different era. There weren't all the social-media videos of top prospects. There weren't dozens of scouting websites to read all you could about such a player.
Then more than now, there was mystery when a player was called up.
And the mystery that Jeter brought with him led to one of the greatest careers in Yankees history. It all started 30 years ago.
