What the New York Mets do in the offseason might have some level of impact on the New York Yankees

As of right now, there seems to be some interest in Cody Bellinger for the Yankees and Mets, although he might want to remain in the Bronx due to some familiarity.

Ultimately, however, it'll come down to money.

From the sound of things, the amount of money the Mets have spent in recent years, mainly by adding Juan Soto, could have an impact on what they do in the offseason.

A year ago, many said that the Mets were going to overtake the Yankees in New York, but it doesn't seem like that'll be the case as they'll have to shave some payroll, according to a Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

How the Mets could land Cody Bellinger

“The focus for the New York Mets is clear: Add to the rotation, remake the bullpen and fix the defense. Also, they hold interest in re-signing closer Edwin Díaz and retaining slugger Pete Alonso, even if that means asking him to DH more. Indeed, there is plenty to do.

“However, could the Mets make more of a splash? It is possible. But before any serious pursuits of big names such as Tucker, Cody Bellinger and Bregman (listed here just as speculative examples), it’s likely that the Mets would first need to make other moves, namely trading some players off their roster, people familiar with the club’s thinking said. Otherwise, it would be difficult because of the club’s roster construction and its other long-term financial commitments,” he wrote.

Long-term, the Mets looked to be in a decent spot because Steve Cohen has always been willing to spend money.

However, it's interesting to hear the other side after many suggested that he didn't have any financial constraints and was doing whatever he could to improve this roster.
