Max Fried continues to make the eight-year, $218 million contract he signed in free agency over the winter look like a bargain.
The Yankees lefty threw another gem on Wednesday night, this time to beat the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark, yet another Fried win after a New York loss the day before.
And on this occasion, Fried joined Ron Guidry in Yankees history.
According to Baseball Reference's Katie Sharp, Fried is the first Yankees pitcher with 10-plus wins and a sub-1.95 ERA through his first 17 games of the season since Guidry in 1978.
Louisiana Lightning, as they called Guidry, was also a southpaw. In some ways, he must've paved the way for Fried in New York.

Now that Fried is in pinstripes, the Yankees have another strong left arm to rely upon.
Fried is 10-2 with a 1.92 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 104 strikeouts in 108 innings.
In Cincinnati, the 31-year old went seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out seven.
At this rate, Fried could put himself into the AL Cy Young conversation. That'd be quite a place to be for the newest Yankees pitcher to be.
