Marlins have expressed interest in Yankees' Devin Williams image

Devin Williams' tenure with the New York Yankees is likely over. He was acquired in the offseason, but after a poor season with the club, where it just didn't seem like a good fit for both parties, Williams is set to hit the free agent market.

The Miami Marlins exceeded expectations in Clayton McCullough's first year as manager, going 79-83. This means that Miami may look to make notable additions this offseason to ensure they are in a good spot next year to compete for the playoffs. A recent development in the organization is expressing interest in the Yankees' Devin Williams.

Marlins' writer believes Miami will target Devin Williams

According to Marlins writer and reporter Kevin Barral, Miami plans to target two-time All-Star reliever Devin Williams.

Williams is now 31 years old, but is still one of the best relievers in baseball. His market value may have taken a dip after a down season with New York, where he posted a 4.79 ERA in 62 innings. However, this is a great opportunity for the Marlins to buy low on Williams, as it's unlikely he'll have as bad of a season in 2026.

Miami's Loan Depot Park is also extremely pitcher-friendly.

The Marlins aren't among the top spenders in baseball, but savvy moves like signing Devin Williams is what may lead Miami to the postseason next season. Miami did not have a set closer in 2025, which did hold them back, but if the Marlins hold onto Sandy Alcantara and other potential top-line starters, and add Williams, they may have a pretty formidable pitching staff headed into the 2026 campaign.

Williams did post a 13.1 K/9 in 2025, which suggests his swing-and-miss stuff is still there, and may have been a little unlucky with the inflated ERA.
