The New York Yankees Fought to force a Game 5 against the Toronto Blue Jays, but were unsuccessful as the Blue Jays won Game 4  5-2.

New York most likely they needed to play a clean game to do so, but that wasn't how the game went down.

As the offense struggled to get something going, the Yankees did a good job to keep a prolific Blue Jays offense subdued. That was until the seventh inning, when a key defensive mistake by Jazz Chisholm Jr. allowed Toronto to extend it's lead late in the game.

Here's a look at how the top of the seventh played out in Game 4.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. error

Down 2-1 in the top of the seventh, the Yankees were hoping to hold the score there to allow for an easier comeback. Unfortunately for them, a misplay allowed for the Blue Jays to extend their lead.

Toronto had a man on first an Andres Gimenez at the plate, Gimenez hit a chopper to second base. That could've been a double play, but second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. misplayed the ball and allowed the ball to get into center field.

Instead of an inning-ending double play, Toronto had men on first and third with one out as the Yankees pulled starter Cam Schlittler from the game. Two batters later, after Gimenez stole second, outfielder Nathan Lukes drove a single to left field to add two more runs to the Blue Jays' lead.

New York had played a clean game thus far, and have largely been good defensively following a rough defensive playoffs in 2024. However, Chisholm's error came at perhaps the worst time.
