The New York Yankees faced elimination at home on Wednesday in Game 4 of the ALDS against the Toronto Blue Jays. They came into the game feeling good about their matchup as Cam Schlittler got the start on the mound while Toronto went with a bullpen game.
Toronto was able to score first, but the Yankees got that run back with one of their own in the third inning. Toronto took the lead once again in the fifth inning as Schlittler was starting to wear.
In the seventh inning, down one run, a tailor-made inning-ending double-play ball was hit to Jazz Chisholm Jr., but he could not make the play. That led to Schlittler departing the game for Devin Williams.
Toronto's Nathan Lukes would then proceed to bust the game open. He hit a two-run single, which proved to be too much as the Yankees lost the game 5-2.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. on costly ALDS error: 'I'm still going to be thinking about this'
Now, the Yankees will start thinking about the future. For Jazz Chisholm Jr., it will be quite the long break as he processes what went wrong on that botched double-play ball. According to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, it will be on his mind for quite a while.
"I'm still going to be thinking about this, even probably when the season starts next year."
Chisholm states that this error will not be one that will be easily forgotten. It may still be on his mind when the 2026 season comes to fruition.
