Not all plans are foolproof, but the New York Yankees could consider this one if they want to sign Bo Bichette and keep Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Joseph Randazzo of Sports Illustrated proposed an idea on Sunday that could help the Yankees land both players. He considered that Bichette may not stick at shortstop, but second base is occupied by Chisholm, and third base is Ryan McMahon's to lose.
"Keeping Chisholm should be what the Yankees aim for—that and inevitably paying him next year," wrote Randazzo. "Since they will not displace McMahon or [Anthony] Volpe, who have not posted a 100 wRC+ season in their respective careers, the only way to keep Chisholm could be sticking him in centerfield."
Chihsolm spent time in center field with the Miami Marlins and had four outs above average at the position in 2023.
What about Grisham?
The Yankees owe center fielder Trent Grisham $22.5 million in 2026 after he surprisingly accepted the qualifying offer. Moving Chisholm to center field would dramatically affect Grisham's playing time.
"The outfield could feature Chisholm in center, Trent Grisham in left field, which works because his defensive metrics in 2025 were the worst they have been at centerfield in his career, and, of course, the captain, Aaron Judge, in right field," Randazzo added.
"It would take a bit of awkward configuring, and could take some getting used to, but it would be worth it to have both Chisholm and Bichette in the lineup around the best to do it, Judge."
Randazzo's plan goes to waste if Cody Bellinger re-signs with the Yankees. Chisholm would stay at second base, of course, and Grisham would remain in center. But there's no denying that having both Bichette and Chisholm in the lineup would be a scary sight for opposing pitchers.
