The New York Mets continue to be one of the most aggressive teams to monitor this offseason, and one new prediction has them landing one of the biggest bats on the market.
Former Houston Astros star Kyle Tucker is still a free agent, and it feels like his market is rather quiet, but Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report believes New York is the best fit as of now.
With a clear need in the outfield and the financial flexibility to give out a massive deal, the Mets seem to be a team that makes sense.
“At this point, the Mets make the most sense, desperately in need of outfielders and financially able to cut the necessary check. But as was the case last winter with Pete Alonso, they might be content to play a months-long game of ‘chicken,’ betting that Tucker will settle for less money before another team swoops in with $400M,” he wrote.
That comparison to last offseason is notable. The Mets have shown a willingness to wait out the market, but didn’t with Juan Soto.
Do they view Tucker as a similar type of talent?
Still, the fit is obvious. Tucker would immediately solve multiple issues for the Mets, giving them a middle-of-the-order bat, defensive stability, and a long-term cornerstone to build around with Soto and some of their young arms.
