Despite the New York Yankees being on a heater as of recently, there are still questions that remain unanswered as the team looks to fight for the AL East title with the Toronto Blue Jays.
One of those questions is on 24-year-old shortstop Anthony Volpe while he continues to struggle this season.
Volpe showed great promise on both the offensive and defensive sides of the game in 2024, but things are looking a lot different in 2025. His role on the Yankees could be diminishing by the day.

Aaron Boone says the Yankees are 'in day-to-day mode' at the shortstop position
Last season, Anthony Volpe had promising statistics for such a young player. Finishing with a .243 batting average and a 3.4 WAR while hitting 12 home runs and 60 RBI for the Yankees.
However, in 2025, Volpe hasn't been able to bring the momentum into this season. Through 141 games, he has a .206 batting average and 1.3 WAR for the Yankees. He's improved his home run (19) and RBI (70) numbers, but his inconsistent bat mixed with untrustworthy defense has made manager Aaron Boone take action.
Before the Yankees' game against the AL-best Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, manager Boone said that New York is now "in day-to-day mode" at the shortstop position, Jack Curry of YES Network said in a post to social media.
It was a quick switch-up after Yankees insider Bryan Hoch mentioned that Boone named Volpe the team's starting shortstop just a day ago, but his mindset must've changed after seeing Volpe strike out in five of his last six at-bats against the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers.
The Yankees could be implementing 29-year-old shortstop Jose Cabellero into the lineup more often in hopes of finding a more reliable player at the position.
