The final few months of the MLB regular season were not a friend to the New York Mets, and it definitely showed after their 2025 campaign came to an end on Sunday.
Just a few days before the trade deadline on July 27, the Mets were coming off their seventh win in a row and carried a convincing 62-44 record. Just over two months later, they finished with an 83-79 record and were the last team to miss the NL Wild Card.
Disappointment is an understatement for the team carrying the second-highest payroll in all of Major League Baseball, and team owner Steve Cohen had a few things to say about the end of their season.
Mets owner Steve Cohen issues an apology to fans following 2025 season
The Cincinnati Reds will advance to October baseball, while the New York Mets are left on the outside after losing the tiebreaker on the final day of the regular season.
Mets owner Steve Cohen posted an apology to fans following the conclusion of the season. Labeling the 2025 season as "unacceptable."
Mets fans everywhere. I owe you an apology . You did your part by showing up and supporting the team. We didn’t do our part. We will do a post-mortem and figure out the obvious and less obvious reasons why the team didn’t perform up to your and my expectations

We are all feeling…
It seems that Cohen is just as surprised and disappointed in what happened in the final months of the season in New York.
To top things off, the Mets will be without franchise star and one of the greatest players to wear the blue and orange. First baseman Pete Alonso announced that he will opt out of his current contract and test the free agency market this offseason, ESPN announced.
