MLB analyst urges the Mets to make one final splash this offseason image

Last offseason was a dream for New York Mets fans. They were able to retain Pete Alonso while bringing in Juan Soto as the newest centerpiece.

However, that did not lead to a postseason berth. They finished the regular season with an 83-79 record, just missing a spot in the Wild Card.

Since the season ended, it has been back to the drawing board for the front office. They have made a few solid moves, but with what they lost this winter, you can't help but feel the additions may not be enough.

With Edwin Diaz signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Mets went out and signed Devin Williams. Williams is coming off a rocky 2025 season, so you cannot blame fans for not being over the moon here.

Outside of that, they also lost Pete Alonso as he signed a contract with the Baltimore Orioles. To replace him, they went out and signed Jorge Polanco.

They also went out and acquired Marcus Semien in a trade with the Texas Rangers to replace Brandon Nimmo. Lastly, they lost Tyler Rogers and signed Luke Weaver.

Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer does not believe these replacements will be enough to make a strong run in 2026. He urges the club to make one final splash before Spring Training starts up.

"The Mets are obviously not the Cleveland Guardians when it comes to market size and spending capacity, and they even have a deeper farm system to pull from in trades. They should be having a big winter, and they're just...not. This may well change, and their catches could be as big as Kyle Tucker and/or Freddy Peralta. For the moment, though, Mets fans have every reason to feel burned."

Rymer is not impressed with the offseason the Mets have had so far. They have deep pockets and can afford to bring in high-profile players, but have failed for the most part this winter. There is still time left to bring in an impactful player, and fans will need to hold onto hope that the front office can make something happen.
