The New York Mets are once again being thrown around in rumors on the starting pitching market, and this time the target is a familiar name around New York fan bases, for more reasons than one.

According to Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated, the Mets have shown interest in a deal for MacKenzie Gore.

“The New York Mets are heavily in on the starting pitching market.

“The Mets recently spoke to the NL East rival Washington Nationals about left-handed starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore, as a source told Mets On SI,” he wrote.

On its own, the interest makes plenty of sense. Gore is a young, controllable left-hander with frontline stuff, and is exactly the type of arm the Mets have been trying to add as they reshape their rotation under a new front office philosophy.

The New York Yankees have also been linked to Gore in recent months, viewing him as a potential trade option. Seeing the Mets jump into the mix, and doing so aggressively, adds another hilarious layer to what Steve Cohen has done, and that’s none other than trying to steal players the Yankees want.

If there's one positive in the situation for the Yankees, it's the fact that the Washington Nationals might not want to send him to the Mets, considering they both play in the NL East.

Every single rumor this winter has suggested that the Mets are interested in adding a high-end starter, so if they're willing to give up the prospects, Gore would make a lot of sense.
