After trading for Freddy Peralta, the New York Mets rotation is expected to be set. However, if there’s a chance to land someone like Tarik Skubal, it’s a deal David Stearns will likely look to make.
Mark Powell of FanSided pitched a trade that would send the Detroit Tigers’ left-hander to Queens, but it’d cost a ton.
Mets receive: Skubal
Tigers receive Jonah Tong, Brett Baty, Elian Peña, Dylan Ross
“The Mets won't want to include Tong, but if they hope to acquire Skubal, it'll have to be him or Nolan McLean. You do the math.
“Tong could one day be great, but McLean has already proven he can be a front-of-the-rotation starter behind Skubal. Baty's days in Queens could be numbered, as the Mets acquired Bichette to play third base. Peña is a lottery ticket, but one that is already ranked among the team's top-10 prospects. Ross is filler, but he's also MLB-caliber and tested in Triple-A,” he wrote.
Even with Peralta, Skubal is arguably the best pitchers in baseball and would instantly become the ace, giving New York a true star in his prime.
Jonah Tong is one of the most promising young arms in baseball, and including him would be a major decision. Brett Baty would also be tough to give up in a sense, but it’d be easy to do so in a deal like this, obviously.
