The New York Mets have been reshuffling their pitching staff lately, with the struggles of multiple starting pitchers. New York has tapped into their pitching prospects this season and is looking to do so again this weekend.
After the successful debuts of Jonah Tong and Nolan McLean, the Mets are reportedly going to make another exciting decision in their starting rotation.
According to Chase Ford, a reporter for MILB Central, the Mets are going to call up right-handed pitching prospect Brandon Sproat for his MLB debut on Sunday, September 7th, against the Cincinnati Reds.

Sproat had a 4.24 ERA along with 113 strikeouts in 121.0 innings for the Syracuse Mets.#Mets
Sproat, in 121 innings, struck out 113 batters and had a 1.24 WHIP with an 8-6 record. He's the fifth-ranked prospect in the Mets system, and ranked right behind fellow right-handed pitching prospects Tong and McLean.
The other two Mets prospects have gotten off to strong starts for the Mets, and they'll once again be hoping for another rookie pitcher to get off to a strong start to their career.
It's a big matchup against the Reds, as they're one of the two top teams that could supplant the Mets in the NL wild card race. New York has a five-game lead over the Reds and a four-game lead over the San Francisco Giants.

The 24-year-old right-hander is a former 2023 second-round pick out of Florida, and the 2025 season is his second in the Mets system. He posted a 3.40 ERA in 24 games in 2024 between High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A.
While his ERA in Triple-A is higher than his numbers from a year ago, his numbers are significantly better than his 7.53 ERA from his seven starts at Triple-A in 2024.
Sproat isn't getting an easy matchup in his debut, as he'll join amid a tight race for the top spot in the National League East, as well as a close race for the third and final NL wild card spot.
He's joining fellow rookies Jonah Tong and Nolan McLean in the Mets rotation, as they look to catch the Philadelphia Phillies and secure a postseason spot down the stretch in September. Sproat's start is a big one, and he'll get a chance to make his mark right away.
