Mets predicted to sign another ace-caliber arm after trading for Freddy Peralta image

The New York Mets landed Freddy Peralta in a blockbuster deal on Wednesday, and many don’t think they’re done adding to the mound just yet.

Christopher Kline of FanSided recently predicted that the Mets would sign right-hander Zac Gallen, a name they’ve been linked to in recent months, as the New Jersey native remains unsigned.

“The New York Mets need some stability in their rotation, and Zac Gallen is trending toward a manageable short-term deal,” Kline wrote

“He bombed last season in Arizona, but finished strong enough, and he's only a couple years removed from Cy Young contention. For a team in desperate need of veteran arms – or depth in general – Gallen feels like a nice cherry on top of a transformative offseason.”

Gallen’s 2025 season was rough, but there have been moments when he’s been elite. At his best, he’s been one of the better starters in the National League and someone who can even win a Cy Young award.

For the Mets, that gamble could make sense. They’ve already taken steps to improve their pitching staff, and adding Gallen on a shorter-term deal would limit long-term risk while helping them win right now.

It would also fit the organization’s and David Stearns mindset on landing players on a short-term deal. Gallen wouldn’t need to be the ace, but he’d give them meaningful innings and experience.
