The New York Mets once in the 2025 MLB season had a 45-24 record. They were one of the best teams in the league until they had a brutal stretch.

With the Mets losing 4-0 to the Miami Marlins on Sunday, they were officially eliminated from playoff contention. New York finished with an 83-79 record this season and lost the tiebreaker to the Cincinnati Reds. This is going to be a long offseason ahead for this franchise. There are a lot of fans who want manager Carlos Mendoza fired. Well, does this franchise have any plans to move on from him?

New York Mets Do Not Plan on Firing Carlos Mendoza as Manager

Andy Martino covers the New York Yankees and the Mets for SNY. Immediately after the Mets dropped its final game of the season against the Marlins, he gave an update about the Mets manager future with the team. Martino said,

"The Mets have absolutely no plans to fire Carlos Mendoza off this collapse. As they shouldn’t. Beyond that it gets interesting. Will write something this evening."

The potential changes for this team for the 2026 season could potentially include having a different pitching and hitting coach. There could be other changes within the coaching staff as well. If they were to move on from pitching coach Jeremy Hefner and hitting coach Eric Chavez, it will be interesting to see who they will be replaced by.

The issue with the pitching was that David Stearns did not do a good job of addressing the starting rotation. A bigger issue with New York this season was also its defense. They are going to have to make changes this offseason if they want to get back to the playoffs in 2026. There will be a lot of chatter surrounding this organization this offseason.

Mendoza's and Stearns's job security heading into next season is only the beginning of it. A lot of fans may not be happy that he is being kept for another season, but it may be the right move for the Mets for now.
