The New York Mets have been with Mark Vientos, who has been dealing with a hamstring strain. The team made an announcement regarding their young starter.
Vientos was a great piece for the Mets last year, especially down the stretch and in the postseason. Last season, he hit 27 home runs. He had six home runs in 53 games before his injury this year. Carlos Mendoza announced that Vientos will rejoin the Mets tomorrow and could play.
"He played last night," said Mendoza. "They had a day game today. He played third base and got three at-bats. He played third base again today. He will be back here tomorrow. We got to meet with the trainers and talk to him and see if he needs an off day after playing back-to-back, or he's ready to go and play for us."
Vientos played in six minor league games as part of his rehab assignment. He went 4-for-23 overall. He went 2-for-2 with two walks today, in what will be his final rehab game.
Last season, he slashed .266/.322/.516. In the postseason, he hit .327 with a .998 OPS. He was expected to be a star at third base this year, but struggled early on. He was starting to play better before his injury. The Mets are chasing the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East, and need Vientos to step up upon his return.

The Mets have not seen great production from third base in Vientos' absence. If he can start playing like he did last year, the Mets' offense could look very different.
