Mets’ Juan Soto sets MLB home run record, breaking Jimmie Foxx’s history image

With two towering blasts way beyond the Citi Field right-field wall, Juan Soto wrote his name atop an MLB record.

The two-HR game on Wednesday night marked the 27th multi-homer performance of Soto's career. No one in Major League Baseball history has had more before turning 27 years old.

Soto entered the night tied with the legendary Jimmie Foxx, who had 26 games with two or more home runs before he turned 27.

By the end of the night, Soto stood alone.

It's a record that required a quick rise to the big leagues just to have a chance. Soto debuted when he was 19 years, 207 days old.

Overall, he already has 220 career home runs. That includes 19 and counting this season after a career-high 41 last year for the Yankees.

Soto doesn't turn 27 until Oct. 25, deep into the postseason. He's got a chance to build on this record before then.

Foxx actually debuted in the majors when he was 17, but he didn't become a regular or have any multi-HR games until he was 20.

The legendary Philadelphia Athletics and Boston Red Sox slugger totaled 534 home runs by the time his career was done.

Soto's still got a long way to go to reach that mark, but he's already got one piece of history all to himself.
