Mets get Kyle Tucker news in free agency image

The New York Mets shelled out huge money last offseason for the best free agent available, Juan Soto.

Maybe they could do that again this winter with Kyle Tucker available from the Chicago Cubs.

The Mets weren't initially viewed as a favorite for Tucker, but apparently they're in the running.

Former MLB GM Jim Duquette is now a media member, and he reported on Sunday night that three teams are in the picture for Tucker: the Mets, Blue Jays and Dodgers.

"(They) have all met with the player, either in person or over Zoom, as part of the recruiting process for a star player," Duquette added.

Duquette then finished with this speculation: "Will be interesting to see if any of the 3 teams increase their offers soon to separate themselves from the other."

The Mets' biggest weakness in the lineup is in centerfield, and it's unlikely they'd put Tucker there.

But to have Tucker and Soto holding down the outfield corners and the heart of the lineup would be an incredible combination.

It's not clear if the Mets would go a similar route as the Dodgers with shorter years and higher per-year value, but that might be the move to not be totally locked into Tucker and Soto forever.

Still, though, the Mets would love this splash after missing the playoffs in 2025 after a major collapse.

Signing Tucker would be a statement they don't plan to let that happen again.
