The New York Mets enjoyed an emphatic win on Friday, as the team slugged four homers against the ascendant National League powerhouse Chicago Cubs.
And while Mets fans might be getting used to those performances as the team surges to a great start this season, there was one major difference they would have noticed.
“Since last May, (Francisco) Lindor has been walking to the plate as ‘My Girl’ from the Temptations blared over the ballpark speakers at home,” Andrew Tredinnick wrote for NorthJersey.com. “On Friday night against the Cubs, Lindor mixed it up. After belting a leadoff home run after approaching the plate to ‘My Girl,’ the Mets shortstop stepped to home plate to ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell for his second at-bat.”
In 2024, Lindor slashed .273/.344/.500 with 33 homers, 91 RBI and 29 stolen bases, earning a Silver Slugger Award along the way and pushing the Mets all the way to the National League Championship Series. So far in 2025, he is slashing .297/.364/.497 with eight homers, 25 RBI and five stolen bases.
So fans might wonder why he would opt to change anything at all.
But when asked why he decided to make such a drastic change to a walkup song that has become iconic in Mets land, Lindor shared a clear three-word response: “It’s the vibes,” he said.

“I think it’s a fantastic song,” he added, per Tredinnick. “Hopefully the fans can vibe to it too. A couple of days (ago) I just heard the song and I was like, ‘This is it.’ And I tell you guys, I’m all about vibes. That’s the vibes right now.”
Lindor added that he plans to switch back and forth between the new song and his typical anthem.
As long as he and the team keep playing up to this level, Mets fans will vibe with whatever song he wants.
