Mets get crucial Edwin Diaz news in his first outing of the season image

Mets fans can breathe a little easier after Friday night.

That's because closer Edwin Diaz looked more like his old self.

There were concerns during spring training about Diaz's velocity, which was definitively down on his fastball.

But in his season debut against the Astros, Diaz sat between 97 and 98 miles per hour. That's where he was in his prime, and if he's there this season, it'll be a great thing for New York.

Diaz put together a 1-2-3 inning to earn the save in a 3-1 win, striking out one batter in the process with a nasty slider that came in at 92mph.

Maybe there was a bit of first-outing adrenaline on hand here, but it certainly seems like Diaz is just fine. The Mets will take good 'ole Edwin Diaz, because he's been so reliable for so long.
