The New York Mets are holding their breath for the final week of the regular season. After losing two straight entering Sunday, they are now just a half-game in front of the Cincinnati Reds for the final spot in the NL Wild Card.
Something is going to have to turn around. They have a record of 7-12 in September.
In the midst of a concerning end to the MLB regular season for the Mets, they parted ways with a veteran pitcher on Sunday.
Mets DFA Chris Devenski, reactivate Sean Manaea from paternity list
On Sunday, the New York Mets decided to designate right-handed pitcher Chris Devenski, SNY Mets announced on social media.. The 34-year-old showed production in the short time he had this season.
Through 13 appearances, Devenski had a 2.16 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP while striking out 14 in 16.2 innings.
The move was made to make room for left-handed starter Sean Manaea. He started in the Mets' 3-2 loss to the Washington Nationals on Sunday, giving up four hits and three earned runs in 3.0 innings.
Manaea has struggled this season since returning from a right oblique strain he suffered in Spring Training. He made his 2025 debut in July, and in 13 starts this season, the 33-year-old has a 2-4 record, 5.59 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 71 strikeouts in 58 innings.
