Insider expects two big-name Mets to be traded this offseason image

Disappointing is the best way to describe the end of the New York Mets' season.

After going 21-35 over the final months, the Mets fell short of the postseason. The disappointing finish drew frustration from fans, especially given the significant money invested in the roster.

With the offseason ahead, changes are expected. The Athletic's Tim Britton identified two high-priced players as potential trade candidates before the start of next season.

Britton: Kodai Senga and Jeff McNeil could be trade candidates

There was a lot more than just a couple of players who played into the disappointing end to the New York Mets' season, but it's obvious that something needs to be done before the start of 2026.

Tim Britton mentioned two names that could be trade candidates this season: infielder Jeff McNeil and starting pitcher Kodai Senga.

McNeil, 33, will be earning $15.75 million in 2026 with a club option for another $15.75 million in 2027. After winning the National League batting title in 2022, McNeil signed an extension and hasn't been as reliable. Through 122 games in 2025, he finished with a .243 batting average, .335 on-base percentage, .411 slugging percentage, and a .746 OPS while hitting 12 home runs and 54 RBI.

Senga, 32, is owed $28 million over the next two seasons. After a disappointing finish that led to a demotion to the minors, his value with the Mets appears to be fading. A trade could offer both sides a fresh start. In 22 starts in 2025, Senga went 7-6 with a 3.02 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 109 strikeouts in 113.1 innings.
